The Educator of Excellence Awards

Honoring the late Mr. William (Bill) Taylor and Mr. Mike Foor.
March 11, 2024, in the IHS Multimedia Center.
Pizza served at 11:30 a.m.
Awards presentation at noon.
All are invited.

The Independence High School Alumni Association will present two "Educators of Excellence," awards honoring 79 years of combined service to Bill Taylor and Mike Foor.

Mr. Taylor taught from 1956 until 2001, and Mike Foor is a current teacher who began his career in 1990. These two outstanding faculty members have combined to reached approximately 7000 students in our school district through their cumulative years of service! The noon presentation will be preceded by travel and nature slides taken by Mr. Taylor. Multiple speakers will be present to offer memories of the award recipients.

Monetary donations for a Buckeye tree and bench in Elmwood Park honoring Mr. Taylor will be accepted as well as donations for the food items provided. Alumni Association membership renewals & new member sign-ups will be available. The Alumni Association is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Solar Eclipse Happy Hour

Hosted by the Alumni Association
All graduates and their significant others are welcome to our Solar Eclipse Happy Hour kicking off the weekend before the Solar Eclipse on Friday, April 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Alumni Association is sponsoring a BYOB, (beer or wine,) Happy Hour at the Independence Civic Center. Yes, beer and wine are permitted on the campus for this event! This "Bring Your Own Spirits," is one of three pilot events allowing alcohol on the premises and approved by the Independence Civic Center. You may also bring soft drinks and we encourage guests to bring an appetizer or snack to share. You must be 21 years or older to consume alcoholic beverages on the premises. There is no cost for this event, but a donation to the Independence High School Alumni Association would be appreciated.
